Feeling your pain

From an article in the NEW YORK TIMES, about job loss during recession and residual trauma even after getting ‘back to work’:

“If the rug is pulled out again, I’m not going to survive,” he said.

This all made me think of how many times the rug has been pulled out from underneath me — so, of course, I know you can survive such a journey, through the heaves and hoes of your native soil’s woes during a recession, careful not to call it a ‘depression,’ can’t go there, that was Dustbowls and irretrievable notions of how to pull out of this other than jump from the skyscraper roof of the Empire State Building.

Merle Haggard said his family survived The Depression just fine. I have survived the rug being pulled out and then hung to dry, and still been able to keep going. Amazing, isn’t it?
