The Truth has insomnia

Truth is a jealous, vicious mistress that never, ever sleeps.

    ~  Tahereh Mafi, Shatter Me

What does the truth have to be jealous of? Lies. What for? The waste, the mockery, the deliberate ignoring of a blatantly  obvious directive. Angry, undoubtedly. But jealous? Jealousy implies a desire to be like the coveted, even in spite. The Truth could only be jealous over our hearts falling for anyone else.

Truth is jealous because we prefer the lies.

Lies tell us what we want to hear. Lies justify. Lies reconfigure the fabric of the cosmos. Lies let us sleep a dreamless slumber. The truth counters with an unwavering hypnophobia. Lies extrapolate, while truth self-medicates.

Truth is vicious because it has to be. Lies are relentless in their insididiousness. If truth took a nap, lies would sneak right out the door.

Truth should sleep. It’ll still be the same in the morning.

Love one another.
